I think the fire departments of Waldo County in Maine (USA) would be interested in using drones to locate and monitor wild fires. I’d love to know what the cost of a drone is.
I want to be a volunteer, i am writing you to the email provided so you can have my data.
You mention: “We are actively looking for resources to build Conservation Drones to distribute to local conservation groups across the developing tropics.” Why can’t you start selling your drones f. eg. to some wildlife parks in Africa that are plagued by ivory poachers?
Best regards from…Zurich! (Would love to meet you once Lian.)
Daniel
Hi Daniel, yes we had been assembling our drones for some national parks, ngos and university colleagues. So the drones are slowly being distributed. To scale up production to meet the overwhelming requests we have been receiving, we are partnering with a registered company, ResearchDrones LLC, who is taking over drone assembly. Serge and I now focus on R&D of new features for ecological and conservation applications. And we also help train people to operate the drones. But we are constantly looking for resources to support our R&D (to buy materials) and travel to drone sites.
Guys fantastic idea !!! Let us use the technology in our conservation efforts. One question remains, what is the price of the drone and how long would it take to train an operator.?? I live in South Africa and we have had more than 430 Rhinos killed this year so far. So anything to assist will help.
Hello Lian and Serge:
I was really happy to find your paper and later on your website, My name is Derek Corcoran Barrios, and I’m the research coordinator for Wildlife Conservation Society in Chile.
We want to make annual aerial census for Guanacos in Tierra del Fuego, and thought of purchasing an UAV. I’ve read many of your papper and I think your group could advice me. we would like to purchase an UAV. One of the most challenging problems here for UAV is high wind speeds that can get over 60 miles an hour, but we have patience and can wait for the proper conditions.
On the other hand if you are interested in actively participating in our research you are more than welcome to participate.
We will be waiting for your recommendations.
Greetings
Derek Corcoran PhD in Biological Sciences
Dear Sir,
what’s the price of the ‘Conservation Drone’ full package, please let me know.
Thanks

Hi, could you please email us at conservationdrones@gmail.com. Thank you.
Keep up the great work! My way of contributing is to feature some of your videos, and to organize Internet information so you can do more research, faster. May I suggest these pages to start?:

Dear sir,madam,
We are NGO known as Wildlife Protection and Conservation in Tanzania, dealing with conservation of wild animals in general,we are requesting to partner with you for serving our future generation, let us join effort to save our endangered species, our email is wpctz2014@gmail.com
Hi, just email us with some more specific questions and we can then discuss things.
Serge
Hi there. I am soon to embark on mapping eelgrass populations (patches) here in Denmark, to see how this method compares to ground truthing (diver) data. We hope to cut down on the pretty high expences from mapping, plus increasing the coverage data both temporally and spatially. So I hope to get sparring with you guys too 🙂
Niels
Hej Niels, send us an email at ConservationDrones@gmail.com with a few more details.
Cheers,
Jeff
Dear Sir/Sirs,
My name is Sandrella Lanjouw and I am a graduate student at the Vrij Universiteit, in the Netherlands. I would like to do my thesis on how to implement conservation drone projects in Africa, Virunga National Park in particular. I have also been researching the use of drones to enforce all the newly announced MPAs throughout the world, but focusing on Micronesia in particular (I know Aerosonde has done a pilot there). How would I go about purchasing a drone and getting trained to operate one, as I am trying to convince my sister-in-la Annette Lanjouw (a world renowned Primatologist), to help me test one of your conservation drones out at the Virunga site. Thank you.
Dear Sir/Sirs,
As a follow up to my previous email, I would really love to be one of your interns. Do you have any spots open for an eager and motivated Environmental Resource Managemt Graduate student. My area of focus is Environmental Engineering. I am willing to travel from the Netherlands anytime, and I am available between February and May. I only have to be back at the VU in June to present my thesis. I am really looking forward to hearing back from you.
Sincerely,
Sandrella Lanjouw

Hello, I am interested in learning about the use of drone in counting individual trees in forest. Any lead would be welcome. Thanks, Florence
Hello Florence, there are several research papers that have information on this. It is best too search a bit on Google Scholar or something like it and see what you can find. I have not checked all the most recent literature but there is certainly work being done. If you can’t find anything let me know and I will try to find some papers. Best, Serge
The individual tree count, position, canopy crown diameter can be mark out by the application of image segmentation method on the ortho rectified image. The tree height can also be extracted by subtracting Digital Terrain Model from the Digital Surface model.
Hi. We are interested in understanding the Drone Technology and how it can be applied in Agriculture for reducing Global Warming. We are a Computer Applications Institute in Mumbai, India.
