Drone Parachute Deployment
We finally were able to test our homemade parachute (40″ diameter). Initial tests suggest that a deployment altitude of about 10m above ground should be about just right to minimize drift.
Our next step is to install this parachute deployment system in Conservation Drone 2.0 (2m Raptor). That will remove the need for a large landing area, which is often hard to come by in tropical forests where most of our drone users work.
Credits to Juanita Choo for constructing the parachute and ExperimentalAirlines for showing us how.
You could fly it into a net as well. A very fine mesh, just make sure the motors are off.
Thank you for bringing that up. We have considered it as well, but never tried it yet. Do you have some footage of you or others trying this?
We have just added a Forum to ConservationDrones.org!
