Automated peat fire detection using thermal infrared

Fires in peat areas are a huge challenge to extinguish when they are large. Finding them when they are small is thus important. Here we show that drones with thermal cameras in combination with machine learning to automate the detection of small peat fires could help to detect these fires when they are just starting and thus increase the options to extinguish them.
