An Assessment of the Effectiveness of RGB-Camera Drones to Monitor Arboreal Mammals in Tropical Forests

A new study by Eduardo Pinel-Ramos and several co-authors evaluated the usage of drones with RGB cameras to study two large primates (Geoffroy’s spider monkeys and southern muriquis). Although both species could be detected on drone footage the detectability was low for both species indicating that with current camera resolution drones are better suited as a complementary tool rather than a primary method to survey these primates in these dense forests.
