Orangutan nest detection using deep learning
Orangutan nest surveys using drones are now common throughout the range where they occur and conservationdrones was probably the first team doing this in 2011. Since that time we always wanted to be able to automate the nest dection in the data as going through thousands of photos became quite boring. It took a while but our first paper on the topic is now out in the American Journal of Primatology and can be downloaded here. As with the previous paper on elephant tracking, models will be on the ConservationDrones GitHub. The model on our GitHub is a slightly different model from the one in the paper. The link is also on our new conservationdrones AI page. If you have orangutan nest images and would like to contibute to the next version of the model please do get in touch. We hope to improve upon the model but require data.
