ConservationDrones Test-Flies 3DRobotics’ Y6 Multicopter
In our most recent drone trip, the ConservationDrones team brought along with us a Y6 Multicopter to SE Asia (http://3DRobotics.com). And it was a good thing we did because we were having some difficulty mapping a 1-hectare forest with a fixed-wing aircraft (too small an area for a fast-flying fixed-wing). The 3DR Y6 was perfect for the job as it mapped the plot in a single 1.5 km mission with no problem.
The Y6 is great. I love mine very much. The conversion from hex to y6 was easy with 3DRs conversion kit and the expanded arms make getting GoPro footage easy and clear. No more landing gear or prop arms in the way. It took a little fine tuning to get the PIDs right but she’s flying stable now and work perfect with mission planner and autonomous missions. The battery life is a bi shorter than my previous hex model but like most things UAV, it’s a balance. Great to see you guys expanding into multi rotor.
Hi, what was the purpose of the mission, was it to indentify the vegetation in this plot ? Thanks, Gilles
It was to identify tree species. Best, Serge
