View from Above – Using Drones to Help Support The Jane Goodall Institute’s Conservation Efforts in Congo
In collaboration with Ready-to-Drone, Conservation Drones (Technical Director, Jeff Kerby) recently traveled to Congo to train staff from the Jane Goodall Institute on how to fly their new mapping and surveying drone. Here are photos and video from the intensive four-day training period at the Tchimpounga Nature Reserve.
- Bungee launch
- Base station
- Tropical forest phenology
- Landing approach
- Checking wind conditions
- Headed upriver
Being someone who loves the outdoors, nature, wildlife and conservation, but who is currently having quite limiting mobility problems, I realize the potential of how the use of UAV’S opens up the chance for disabled people to enter the field of conservation.
